sales exhibition estonian photomonth

It has become a tradition for the Estonian Photographic Art Fair to hold a sales-exhibition of quality photobooks. This year the focus is on books of photographic art from the three Baltic states. We selected 10–14 books from each country. The exhibition is special as it provides a side by side comparison of the approaches and trends in the Baltics.

A significant emphasis this year lies on photobooks self-published by artists and small publishing houses’ editions. What makes them special is that the artist was behind the book from beginning to end. In addition, the print run is usually limited, which makes them rarities.

The exhibition of photography books is accompanied by talks with artists, book discussions and lectures about self-publishing in Latvia and Lithuania. Lecturers include Evita Goze from Latvia, who is the organizer of Self Published Riga and Andrew Miksys from Lithuania. Miksys is an artist of American origin who has lived and worked in Lithuania for the last 15 years and self-published his own book, Disko. Miksys will talk about his projects in Lithuania and Belarus and explore the background behind his forays into publishing.

The book exhibition was made possible thanks to cooperation with the following partners: publishing house Lugemik from Estonia; Arnis Balčus, Editor-in-Chief of FK magazine and one of the organizers of the Riga Photomonth, and artists Inga Erdmane, Reinis Hofmanis, Roman Korovin (Latvia); Gintaras Česonis, Head of the Kaunas Photography Gallery, publishers Artbooks.lt, Kritika and Asta Vaičiulytė, Curator of the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC).
