On August 26th, 2014 VMU Art Gallery “101” will present “Transient Components”, a solo project by Kimvi Nguyen (UK). The show will be opened September 2nd, however, the artist is inviting visitors to a series of site specific installations during the preparation time:

Matchsticks. 26th-27th August. 11am – 5pm.

Charcoal. 28th-29th August. 11am – 5pm.

Balloons, Air, Breath ,Coins. 1St September. 1pm-5pm.

Exhibition opening. 2nd September.5pm.

Artist Talk. 3rd September.2pm.

In this exhibition, Kimvi presents a series of site specific installations created by materials carried in her hand luggage. The exhibition is an ongoing investigation of the idea of creating work in response to travelling and what it is to create work with in imposed restrictions.

Materials transform the given space into temporary installations, each testing its ability to adapt and alter the space. The installations will naturally alter during the period of the exhibition through the interactions of visitors and the ephemeral qualities of the chosen materials. Each piece will present a language of time and energy.

Kimvi Nguyen is a Winchester, UK based artist. Graduated from BA Fine Art Sculpture at Winchester School of Art 2011. She is an active member of performance group FORMA and K+Kproject . Her work is a combination of performance, sculpture, design, craft and collaborations. Kimvi makes work for communities, public spaces, cathedrals, museums, galleries, festivals, musicians and education. Behind her work is an ongoing interest in proposing and finding solutions to problems. Often these are problems that cannot be formulated before they have been solved, the shaping of the question becoming part of the answer. The idea, material and process is paramount to her work. “I am always interested in new ways of working and making connections with people to enable works, large and small, to materialise”, says the artist.

The show will be presented in the new gallery space located in Kaunas Old town (Muitinės st. 7).
