Symbolic artistic interpretation by artist Žilvinas Landzbergas marks the opening of the new project space “Sodų 4” in Vilnius, run by Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LTMKS). The shining object created by the artist for this project space will connect the underground and the overground and the busy street with the quiet white indoors. It will suggest to interpret and to meditate the quietness of the cyclic motion of the present. According to the artist, he is aiming to light up the basement and to take the last year’s harvest to the light for the new beginning. By constructing this tower-shaped greenhouse, standing on the pre-cultural layers of Vilnius city, he is pointing to the historical compost which will give rise to all future artistic events in the space of “Sodų 4”.
Žilvinas Landzbergas’ work will breath in life and will physically connect space as well as time by transferring the continuity of the earlier project space “Malonioji 6” to this new project space in Sodų street.
Žilvinas Landzbergas was born in 1979 in Kaunas, now lives and works in Vilnius. He studied sculpture at Vilnius Academy of Arts between 1998–2004, and was a resident at the De Ateliers in Amsterdam between 2005–2007. He is actively participating in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad since 2003.
The new project space run by artist community from LTMKS will fill the gap of curated and artist-organised shows in Vilnius, Lithuania. It will invite curators, artists from LTMKS and elsewhere for collaborations. It will also aim to allocate a significant part of its program for international artists. The space will also act as a space for performances, screenings, workshops and other unexpected actions.
