Rupert is pleased to invite you to “Soaked in repetition, only to retreat in minutes”, an exhibition of new works by a current artist-in-residence Luca Vanello. The opening will take place at Sodų 4 (Sodų str. 4, Vilnius) on 29 December from 6 pm.
Informed by long term research, Vanello’s practice explores the implication of non-human entities in processes of distribution of the visible. Plants, inanimate objects, images, affect and energies are all seen as part of the same organic whole, where an isomorphism is created between social forces and material ecologies. In approaching physical manipulation as a conceptual tool, intimate narratives and material cycles are woven together. Through processes such as vaporization, digital image alteration, compression, fragmentation and absorption, alteration as a form of abstraction becomes both a way of thinking through collective and individual narratives.
The new series of works presented in occasion of his exhibition at Sodų 4 are the outcome of his current exploration of the potential political agency of non-human entities in the activities defining “labour of care”. During his time at Rupert, Vanello has realised a new series of works resulting from his present collaboration with Dr. Sharif El-Lethy, head of the Center for Traumatic Stress Service of the Springfield University Hospital, London, during which he has been investigating the correlation between the agency of non-human entities involved during PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) treatment, therapeutic material practices and the implicated politics of visibility.
