Ieva Kraule’s exhibition Loneliness Will Be My Greatest Treasure opened on January 24th at Kalnciema kvartāls gallery (Kalnciema iela 35, Riga) and will remain on the view through February 5th.

“In the past there are only eight notes, which are repeated every Thursday morning just as a rhythmic hitting of a basketball, sharp screeching of rubber and a nervous chorus sung to each hour in a high-pitched voice of the whistle. The thought of possibly returning there gives me the chills, poignant as chokeberry that is spit through a plastic tube.  Poignancy takes over us both, but the real loser is the one who, as the bell rings, asks to lend him a ball pen with his bluish lips,” the artist writes.

Loneliness Will Be My Greatest Treasure is dedicated to forgotten paths among wobbly fences and rutted asphalt where someone is silently humming unrecognisable melody and searching for the right distance between events, roughness of a scraped canvas and some unrepeatable pink tint. The show presents collages and installations which deal with personal memories blending with references to mixture of pop culture and environment of different times.
