Kilometre of Sculpture is pleased to announce the open call for its 2015 exhibition. Artists working in any field or medium are invited to apply. The exhibition will be held from 4 – 26 July in the town of Võru in southern Estonia.

Kilometre of Sculpture is an international outdoor art exhibition held every year in the public space of a regional city in Estonia. The town of Rakvere in northern Estonia hosts the exhibition every two years in conjunction with the Baltoscandal theatre festival, while different centres across regional Estonia will host the exhibition in the intervening years. In 2015, the hosting city is Võru in southern Estonia.

Kilometre of Sculpture adopts a mixed model involving a curated section and an open call section. The selected curator for the exhibition in Võru is Andreas Nilsson, who, together with the KoS team, will organize the curated exhibition and oversee the open call.

“Given the concept of Kilometre of Sculpture as an annual temporary sculpture exhibition presented in the public space, the current exhibition seeks to pose questions on what a temporary sculpture is and what form it takes, and further, its relation to the viewer and the space it inhabits. […] Let us consider the town of Võru as a temporary stage for both (im)material constructions and performances, a place for interactions on several levels, where the sculptural works, the role of language and sound, and the performative aspect, activate the space and invite the spectators to an interchange of ideas”, says curator of the project Andreas Nilsson.

Selection panel: Maria Kjær Themsen (DK), Kirke Kangro (EE), Maarin Ekterman (EE), Siim Preiman (EE)
