Exhibition PHO-TEX Vol. 3 is a joint project of three artists and colleagues from Vilnius Art Academy, Kaunas Faculty, Textile Department. The idea of the project was born two years ago, during a trip to Kyoto (Japan), a Kyoto photography festival (KYOTOGRAPHY | KG +). During the stay, the authors received the invitation of the owner of the gallery GALLERYGALLERY (JPN) and curator Keiko Kawashima to participate in the exhibition PHO-TEX Vol.2, and in 2019 the premiere of this joint project took place at this gallery on April 20 – May 4. Immediately after the debut in Japan, the project is also be presented in Lithuania, at the VDA gallery Artifex.

The main idea of PHO-TEX is the relationship between textiles and photo-media. According to curator Keiko Kawashima, this is exactly what these three famous Lithuanian textile artists relate to – not only the use of techniques and tools (from traditional to modern), but also their combination with photo-media. Often, authors are not only united by means of expression, but also themes. The theme of this exhibition-project is a journey that intertwines with both physical, mental and spiritual meanings in the authors’ works. Nevertheless, each author has an individual understanding of the subject, the textile and its essence.

In this exhibition Lina Ožerkauskienė – Ore installation “Marys. And Who are These Marys? ” is looking for new meanings in the religious artefacts (St. Marys images) brought back from various trips within two years. Monika Žaltauskaitė Grašienė in her work “Network” examines the relationship between human and tree (nature) and analyses the symbolism of spruce, while Lina Jonikė in the collection of miniatures “Beloveds” reviews the meaning of each of the nice trinkets brought back from our trips.
