The launch of Edith Karlson’s first ever monograph at EKKM

A publication on Edith Karlson’s work of the previous 12 years will
be published and the artist’s solo exhibition Return to Innocence is extended until 19 December

On 16 December, a book on Edith Karlson’s work of the previous 12 years will be launched at the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (EKKM). The 320-page English language publication Drama is in Your Head is Karlson’s first monograph. It provides an overview of 22 projects by Karlson accompanied by extensive photographic documentation, as well as two essays by Eero Epner and Denis Maksimov. The book is edited by Evelyn Raudsepp, designed by Indrek Sirkel, translated by Keiu Krikmann, and published by Lugemik and EKKM.

The book launch takes place on 16 December at 6pm at EKKM and includes a conversation between Edith Karlson, Maria Arusoo and Kirke Kangro, moderated by Evelyn Raudsepp (in Estonian).

Karlson’s art strives towards the cognitive, reconquers tactility and palpability,
presses through the physical presence of the vacuum of meanings, towards
sculptural embodiment and everythingthat can be sensed, felt and touched. /–/
Karlson does not work with sculpture haphazardly but with a deep conviction.
This art form, closest to the body, offers hope (or at least the illusion of hope)
that there is a place we can return to and there are still things we can sense.

— Eero Epner, quote from the book

Through artistic irony, Edith Karlson’s practice helps us save and justify the hope so
essential for going on with a broad smile in the obscurity and randomness of existence.

— Denis Maksimov, quote from the book

Edith Karlson’s solo exhibition Return to Innocence [1], currently on show at EKKM is extended by one week and it will remain open until 19 December.

NB: On the 19 December EKKM closes at 6pm.
