The Locomotif programme presents a new group show, The Key, the Tower and the Crowns, focusing on the development stages of a town like a kind of stained glass, in which one may trace connections even between very different elements.
Stained glass, a form of monumental decorative art found in religious, administrative and industrial buildings alike, functions as a hallucinogenic optical device and a metaphor for a culturally diverse town. Piercing the transparent glass pieces, light produces subtle effects and nuanced messages.
Shaped by invaluable cultural diversity and different perspectives, the town is marked by crumbling signs of bygone epochs that encapsulate the impact of ideologies and faiths. The town’s turbulent journey through time has left imprints on the walls of its buildings, in glass shards and basements.
It will be an unusual walk through the town of Lentvaris that will involve visiting scattered works of art and the town’s permanent exhibits, revealed from an unexpected point of view. The curators invite the viewers to pay attention to the melting signs of Lentvaris’ identity that today are still recognisable as artefacts of cultural change.
The exhibition opening guided tour will begin on June 10th, at 6pm, in front of the Lentvaris Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mokyklos str. 17)
