The 21st international wood fired ceramics symposium takes place at the Tohisoo Manor complex in Kohila during 11.07.—1.08.2021. The participating artists are from Belgium, Hong Kong, Finland, Cyprus, USA, Argentina, Israel, Hungary and Estonia.

During the symposium, monumental sculptural forms will be built from clay and fired in the anagama kiln fueled with firewood. This year is all about clay and light — light artist Rene Manivald Tamm will create site-specific light art for the final exhibition.

Kohila Symposium has a great parallel program — the building and firing of a fire sculpture. Kiln master Andres Allik has developed a specific petal-kiln for firing fire sculptures and is going to build one for the symposium. The design of the kiln enables it to fire more than 2-meter high ceramic sculptures. The bottle-shaped kiln will be opened as a flower at the highest temperature, creating a spectacular fire-show.

The fire sculpture will be built by artist Sander Raudsepp.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the open studios, artist talk and environmental discussion panel (in collaboration with TAKKK). The closing ceremony of the symposium offers an exciting opportunity to visit the final exhibition with a guided tour, the opening of the fire sculpture and a concert. For the closing ceremony there will be a Tallinn-Kohila-Tallinn bus organized for the public. The bus registration will be open later in the Kohila Symposium’s facebook event. Follow our updates!
