10th of September will be the opening of technological art exhibition Wild Bits in Kaunas as part of the international landscape design festival Magenta. Estonian art and technology farm Maajaam is organizing the exhibition in Lithuania, introducing three artworks that will inflate the forest, make the grass spin and chart the commercial flights that zip through the sky above.
Wild Bits is an international residency programme of technological art that will culminate with an open air exhibition in the summer of 2024 at Maajaam farm and its surroundings near Otepää. Before the main exhibition of 2024 there are preparative creative camps and satellite exhibitions in Lithuania and Latvia. The exhibition focuses on the meeting points of humans, technology and nature.
Landscape design festival Magenta is created by Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 and it takes place for the third time, presenting to the dwellers of Kaunas city and Kaunas district scores of new objects of tactical urbanism, design and landscape. The programme invites people to consider what comes first, the nature in the city or the city in the nature.
According to one of the exhibition organizers Mari-Liis Rebane, both the Magenta festival and Wild Bits wish to draw attention to different ways of interpreting space and shifts of environment, be they political or utopian.
On Saturday, September 10 the Wild Bits satellite exhibition will be opened in the area surrounding the Raudondvaris manor close to Kaunas. Participating artist are heidundgriess (DE), Julijonas Urbonas (LT), Timo Toots (EE). The open air exhibition will remain open until September 25, along with the city installations of Magenta festival.
The opening celebration takes place on September 10, at 4 pm in the Raudondvaris manor. Following the opening words there will be a talk with the participating artists moderated by Milda Rutkauskaitė from the Kaunas 2022 team. Also, Lithuanian sound artist Gintas Kraptavicius will perform at the opening.
Wild Bits exhibition is organized by technology and art farm Maajaam led by Timo Toots and Mari-Liis Rebane, artist Taavi Suisalu, and the organizers of urban festival UIT Kadri Lind and Marie Kliiman. Wild Bits is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme.
