Physical Spaces: Virtual Connections is an online multimedia exhibition of students and alumni from Vilnius Academy of Arts on the topic of the natural and man-made Lithuanian environment. The Open Call, which was intended for students of all study levels and departments that were enrolled at VAA during 2010-2020, comprises artworks inspired by the places where VAA operates (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, and Nida). The end result is the portrayal of the multi layered and ever-changing image of Lithuania as perceived, interpreted, and realized by the artists. The exhibition includes more than 50 artworks from 28 Lithuanian and international artists that range from digital (photography, video-art, animation, mural, sound art etc.), to analogue art (drawing, painting, collage etc.), architecture, and performance.
The exhibition’s format experiments with the increasing popularity of virtual exhibitions that arose in response to the imposed social limitations in physical spaces. At the same time, it acknowledges the need of the artists and the public to connect in physical places, virtual spaces, and beyond. For this reason, Physical Spaces: Virtual Connections will move to Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipeda for exhibitions and special events in winter 2021 with collaborations to be confirmed shortly. Currently, we are happy to announce the exhibition’s collaboration with KMN (Kaunas Menininkų Namai/ Kaunas Artists’ House) for a walking tour at the locations of the artworks in Kaunas. (TBA)
