Photo reportage from the exhibition 'Voyage' by Leon Höllhumer at EKA Gallery

Höllhumer’s films are created through performative film shoots – live events as a total spectacle where mundane preparations alternate with intense and brutal sessions. The performances are characterised by the use of different set pieces that may come from everyday life, trying to capture the essence of masquerades. The previously planned structure leaves space for spontaneous expressions. It can get loud and unpredictable. The sequences resemble ritual practices that are humorous and frightening at the same time.

The exhibition is a development of Höllhumer’s short films “Parrot the Parent” and “Sandra’s WG”, which are splatter movies in which the actors slip into animal-like and technoid roles and show moments of injury and in which killing is on the agenda. The interaction of the fictional characters defined by Höllhumer opens up actions whose representational potential combines reality and fiction and moves them into a sphere that focuses on the uncanny and evokes moments of horror. The film “Voyage” and the surrounding installation was created especially for the exhibition at EKA Gallery.

The project was initiated by Pire Sova.
