Pop-up group exhibition “STUDIO 103” is the combination of current Vilnius Academy of Arts Sculpture department bachelor, master programme and alumni students. It is also a non-conformist collective that has been established within the academic process.
This exhibition is an inter-academical exchange, somewhat a vivid study visit that hopefully will work as a possible platform for the student creative exchange.
The key word and the focus of the pop-up group exhibition was the concept of germination, talking specifically about the human body.
Germination, as a process, is usually used in accordance with the plants as the sprouting of a seed, spore, or other reproductive body, usually after a period of dormancy. In this exhibition we are expanding the term and leaning to the symbology of outgrowth as a collection of human virtues in the spiritual sense.
Seven current and former students are exhibiting works of photography, installation, objects, performance and sound – related to hair as a visible sign of our animal nature and reflection of one’s own identity. Outgrowth as a product of cultural construction of multiple meanings, covered or uncovered, bound or unbound, considered a mutilation of defining one’s individual and social functions. Indications of the evolution of human culture and one of the key ways in which artists identify the social identity of their subject. Initiation of the process will be followed with the artist talk and public presentation.
