The exhibition SAVAGE is open from July 10 till the end of the year in the wild between Dūķi and Jaundrusti in Latvia. In the open air studio of Latvian contemporary artist Andris Eglītis.
Currently the artists Andris Eglītis, Raitis Hrolovičs, Kate Krolle in collaboration with Reinis Bērziņš, Austris Mailītis, Elza Sīle in collaboration with Laimdota Malle, Katrīna Neiburga, Jānis Noviks, Kaspars Podnieks, Liene Rumpe, Kristīne Upīte, Linda Vidgorčika and Teemu Korpela are exhibiting their works in the “SAVAGE”.
The exhibition has been designed as an experience with no opening hours or attendants – you can immerse yourself for 15 minutes, or even stay for a week. The artists’ works are placed along three routes of varying complexity on which visitors can experience the meeting of art and nature.
Everyone can choose how to experience Savage – via a mowed, easy path, a longer meandering trail, or wander around the lake with approximate directions and not always dry feet. Visitors determine the pace of the exhibition – experience for themselves. You can swim in the pond and observe the natural horizon, crouch under the fountain, lay in the canvas hammock while reading the Savage Notebook, erect a tent and spend the night, settle under a canopy and create something of your own, or you can just stop by for a moment – nature and art will do everything for you on their own.
Savage is a process based art exhibition– the opening took a place over a period of three days from July 10 to 12, while in the 1st of August the exhibition had the second opening where joined Elza Sīle & Laimdota Malle and Teemu Korpela artworks. Austris Mailitis together with Zilvinas Landz built a sauna on the pond. And in the evening happened the first Savage Notebook author – reading event.
The online journal Satori created the Savage Notebook in collaboration with Latvian writers – Ivars Šteinbergs, Lauris Veips, Marija Luīze Meļķe, Andris Kalnozols and Henriks Eliass Zēgners. The book consist of contemporary literary notes of prose and poetry about both closer and more distant connections to the exhibition. Now on the paths You can enjoy the art of words while laying in huge canvas like hammocks. Also the Latvian beer brewery MALDUGUNS released a special beer SAVVALA which has brewed for one year and is a special beer type – ironically in Latvian also called SAVAGE. You can buy it in shops and bars in Riga city.
There will follow more events before finissage.
