Photo reportage from the exhibition ‘Doghouse’ by Rokas Janušonis at VAA exposition space Kreatoriumas

Until 21 September, the exhibition ‘Doghouse’ by Rokas Janušonis is on display at the VAA exposition space Kreatoriumas.

In the gallery ‘Kreatoriumas’, artist Rokas Janušonis presents the installation of ceramic objects and drawings titled ‘Doghouse’. Combining various means and methods of artistic expression, the exhibition features three-dimensional spatial compositions that explore themes of marginality and irony. The exhibition’s title, ‘Doghouse’, is inspired by the way dogs often bring home found objects from their walks. Similarly, Janušonis mimics this action while walking through the streets of Vilnius, searching for suitable objects to collect, reinterpret, and incorporate into new compositions or installations. By merging ceramic works, drawings, and various ready-made elements created in recent years, the artist seeks to uncover unexpected connections, explore the relationship with the former space of ceramic firing kilns, and engage in a possible dialogue with the tradition of ceramics.

Rokas Janušonis (b. 1997) is an young generation artist, specializing in the fields of ceramics, sculpture and drawing. In 2023 completed his master’s studies in ceramics at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, in 2022 became the winner of the ‘JCDecaux Award’ audience prize and the M.K Čiurlionis incentive/scholarship. Since 2021 Rokas organizes personal exhibitions and actively participating in group exhibitions.
