To celebrate the last days of the exhibition ‘In the Name of the Desire’, visitors are invited to Jette Loona Hermanis’ performance ‘Scarlett Fever’ on July 26 at 6 pm at the Latvian National Museum of Art.
A recurring theme in Hermanis’s work is the exploration of mystical transcendence and a deep-seated desire to convey emotion. Her creations are heavily influenced by the digital era, reflecting a preoccupation with the concept of self-focus and the portrayal of online personas. Through her art, Hermanis navigates the complex narratives of personal identity, existential contemplation, and the soul’s tribulations. Her approach to storytelling is multifaceted, yielding a spectrum of interpretations and perspectives. Her style, characterized as ‘Emo Fairytale,’ is steeped in mythological symbolism, situated within the aesthetic of post-internet dark romanticism.
Jette Loona Hermanis describes her performance ‘Scarlett Fever’: Berry obsessed, lustful and vain, she falters around the function experiencing allergic hives, feverish dreams and hunger for exploitation. Delirious and aroused, she encounters precarious affairs on her path.
Jette Loona Hermanis (1997) embodies the rich heritage of both Estonia and Latvia. Her artistic journey, rooted in theatre, dance, and music, naturally evolved into a career in choreography and performance art, where she skillfully blends these disciplines.
