On 28th of April gallery (AV17) (Aušros Vartu st. 17) will open the exhibition “Nothing personal” by Italian artist Fabrizio Fortini (1967).

In a verse of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa is reflected all the world of this artist: “The poet is a pretender. / He pretends so completely / arriving to pretend that it is pain / pain that really feels.”. Fabrizio Fortini mostly works on the theme of identity. To reflect this topic in his works, the author uses different ways of expression, works interdisciplinary and in the exhibition merges the roles of the curator and the artist. The study of the identity in Fabrizio Fortini works doesn’t end with the production of the artworks, as a tool for the creation process, the artist also uses himself. He is interested in relation between the artist, his name and the artworks. Fabrizio Fortini has stopped using his name for many years and has chosen to operate using other identities: as an artist, he does not really exist except in his pseudonyms. And these fictional artists become an integral part of his artworks.

While embodying different personalities, Fabrizio Fortini “Nothing Personal” presents as a collective exhibition by seven different artists. The participants are: Raphael Baldaya, Cindy Mingus, Guerino Rossi, Marcel Kremer, Napoleone Mapelli, Fabrizio Maria Fortini and Felix Kupka, each of them present its own history, its style and its language.

The gallery space at this exhibition becomes the stage, there the fiction is created and investigated. The artworks in the exposition are the only real things that represent artists, who actually don’t exist. By choosing this complicated way of creation, and making this illusion, the artist seeks to express himself fully, to say something that is his alone to someone else who is completely “Another”. This illusion is called identity.

Behind the fictional personages Fabrizio Fortini will present works on paper, canvas created between 2012 and 2014 and some photographs taken and developed between 2014 and 2015.
