Photo reportage from the exhibition ‘little Grand spells’ by Aurelija Bulaukaitė at gallery ASNI

A solo show “little Grand spells” by emerging Lithuanian artist Aurelija Bulaukaitė is on view at the new contemporary art gallery ASNI in Riga, Latvia. This is the artist’s first exhibition in Latvia where she presents her latest large-format paintings. The exhibition is on view until June 16.

Aurelija Bulaukaitė (b. Vilnius, 1991) is an artists who works in untraditional ways. She holds MA and BA in fine arts from Vilnius Academy of Arts. Aurelija Bulaukaite idealistic aspirations intertwine with the analysis of often hostile realities creating brutal contrasts between banal everyday life and its phantasmagorical potential; interested in the eternity and temporality, spiritual experiences and how it intertwines with social media and virtual world. For her solo show “little Grand spells” she has created a completely new serie of large-format paintings, especially for gallery ASNI.

In the exhibition, Aurelia Bulaukaitė plays with the potential of the medium of painting, inviting viewers to realize the possibilities of the future through it. Using this classic and traditional medium, she refers to the most current trends of this era and subtly simulates an environment dictated by technology.  Karolina Sadlauskaitė, author of the exhibition text writes: “Aurelija Bulaukaite invites you to embody unlimited futures and delve into the enchanting collective and individual potential. Draw a card and grasp your destiny, even if thousands of people had watched that post. Listen to chimerical affirmations which vibrate to the farthest corners of your body and mind, and if you find yourself at an impasse, you may always resort to reiki, which miraculously pulls the lost spirits back from the abyss. You are the forger of your own destiny, and if you are yet to be one, artificial intelligence will deal you an answer.”

Contemporary art gallery ASNI opened in March 2024, with a group show “Unparalleled Surrealities”. It was founded by art consultant, curator Elīna Drāke and independent curator, art publicist Auguste Petre. ASNI focus is representing emerging Baltic artists, as well as promoting collaborations between galleries, establishing local and regional of art processes internationally. ASNI priority is to provide a high-quality exhibition program, representing outstanding Latvian and Baltic artists and strengthening Riga as a desirable destination for European culture tourists, thus promoting the image of Riga as a creative, innovative city in the context of the Northern region and Europe.
