On July 10, the exhibition „Survival kit for the art market” by three Estonian artists Alexei Gordin, Kennet Lekko, and Marko Mäetamm will open at Kogo Gallery in Tartu, Estonia. The exhibition focuses on the madness, beauty, senselessness and necessity of the art market. The show is first opened today, July 1 at roam, a project space in Berlin, the event being part of Gallery Weekend Berlin.
The works at the group exhibition „Survival kit for the art market” by artists Alexei Gordin and Marko Mäetamm were created during their residency at roam, a project space in Berlin, curated by non-profit organisation Eesti-Saksa Kunstikoostöö. Kennet Lekko, an Estonian artist based in Berlin, participates at the exhibition and is also one of the authors of the exhibition concept. The show is curated by Helene Bosecker.
The exhibition in Berlin will stay open only for four days, July 1–4, after which it will travel to Kogo Gallery in Tartu, Estonia where it will remain open from July 10 to August 14.
Within the exhibition, the artists tackle questions like how to process constant dissatisfaction without letting frustration take too much space, how to navigate through the terrain of white cubes surrounded by a black market, how to create freely when the market is asking for other aesthetics, should one go with the flow or against it, accept or revolt.
„Survival kit for the art market” consists of paintings and video art.
The exhibition is funded by Cultural Endowment of Estonia, City of Tartu, Designhostel Hektor, Goethe Institute, Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, Embassy of Estonia in Berlin.
Kogo Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Tartu, established in 2018. Kogo primarily focuses on introducing younger generation artists locally and internationally. Represented artists are Alexei Gordin, Eike Eplik, Mari-Leen Kiipli, Kristi Kongi, Eva Mustonen and Elīna Vītola.
