Contemporary art gallery Kogo based in Tartu, Estonia recently included Laura Põld and Līga Spunde among its represented artists. The gallery now represents eight artists from the Baltics. Both, Laura and Līga, also participate in the group exhibition My Bitter Sweet Frankenstein Body opened yesterday, 2 June at Titanik Gallery, based in Turku, Finland.

Laura Põld (b. 1984) continuously explores fundamental human (and animal) needs, including community, safety and shelter. She focuses on her choice of materials and their historical context, implementing traditional handiwork and building techniques like (primitive) ceramics and embroidery, which interest her as preservation of memory and experience. In her oeuvre, Põld has been engaged in creating a sense of place, combining and juxtaposing materially sensitive objects, narrative elements and memorabilia within the qualities of a specific exhibition space.
Laura studied ceramics at the Estonian Academy of Arts, painting at the University of Tartu and sculptural conceptions and ceramics at the University of Art and Design Linz. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and artist residencies internationally and has been recognized with several awards and scholarships for her creative work. Laura Põld is based in Tallinn, Estonia and Vienna, Austria.
Laura has previously participated in two group exhibitions at Kogo Gallery – Everyday Witchcraft (2018) and The Bambi Project (2021), now she also takes part in the group exhibition My Bitter Sweet Frankenstein Body opened yesterday, 2 June at Titanik Gallery in Turku, Finland.

Līga Spunde’s (b. 1990) works are multimedia installations, where personal stories are closely intertwined with carefully constructed fiction. The interpretations and use of recognizable characters serve as an extension of her personal experiences, tapping into general truths. Usually, the content of the work determines the physical form of the conception, so a variety of media and materials are used in the installations.
In 2016, she completed her postgraduate studies in the Department of Visual Communication at the Latvian Academy of Arts, her graduation project, The Hike, was named one of the three best projects by graduates of European art academies. Līga has participated in numerous exhibitions in Latvia and internationally. Līga Spunde is based in Riga, Latvia.
Līga recently participated in a group exhibition held at Kogo Gallery, The Bambi Project (2021), now she also takes part in the group show My Bitter Sweet Frankenstein Body opened yesterday, 2 June at Titanik Gallery in Turku, Finland.
