Somerset House Studios partners with Vilnius based centre for art and education Rupert and the Lithuanian Culture Attaché for an online residency to support a Lithuanian artist pushing the boundaries of established practice. This residency is focused on artistic development and provides a virtual space for the selected artist to build confidence and trust in their practice and process. Selection will be by a panel comprised of representatives from Somerset House Studios, Rupert and the Lithuanian Culture Attaché in the UK.
The successful artist will undertake 2 month-long digital residency at Somerset House Studios with a dedicated mentor from the Studios artist community. This will include a series of one-to-one sessions as well as critical support from Somerset House Studios producers.
Deadline Monday 20 July 2020 at 10.00.
The residency includes:
- £1000 artist fee
- A dedicated mentor from the Somerset House Studios community
- Additional support from Somerset House Studios producers
- Project presentation as part of Somerset House Studios and Rupert’s digital programmes (if appropriate)
Who Should Apply
- Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply but applicants must be Lithuanian born or based
Criteria
- Artists need to demonstrate clearly how the opportunity will benefit their practice, paying close attention to the mission of Somerset House Studios in making this case.
- Artists should define a focus or project for their residency that they would like to develop for consideration as part of the Somerset House Studios digital programme.

ABOUT SOMERSET HOUSE STUDIOS
Somerset House Studios [2] is an experimental workspace in the centre of London connecting artists, makers and thinkers with audiences. Located inside the repurposed former Inland Revenue building, the Studios offer space and support to artists pushing bold ideas, engaging with urgent issues and pioneering new technologies. It is also a platform for the development of new creative projects and collaborations. Up to 100 artists are resident at any one time and are supported to develop their practice for a defined period. The Studios is also home to Makerversity, a community of 300+ professional makers and Studio 48, a shared workspace for individuals and groups working critically at the intersection of design and technology.
ABOUT RUPERT
Rupert [3] is a centre for Art and Education devoted to establishing close cooperation between artists, thinkers, researchers, and other cultural actors through interdisciplinary programs and residencies. A knowledge-based platform for innovative creative production, Rupert integrates with the social and cultural framework of the city of Vilnius while simultaneously supporting a strong international focus. Through its research and development-oriented programs, Rupert supports international thinkers in realizing their projects and establishing their creative careers on an international scale. It focuses on contemporary artistic and curatorial practices but remains close to an extensive range of disciplines, while encouraging transdisciplinarity.
ABOUT LITHUANIAN CULTURE ATTACHÉ
Lithuanian Culture Institute (LCI) [4] works towards a continuous representation of Lithuanian culture abroad. It is achieved by organising cultural exchanges and incoming mobility for arts experts. In addition, LCI produces cultural seasons and many arts events, such as the Lithuanian arts festival in Rome, Lithuanian presentation at the London Book Fair and the eponymous yearly Vilnius Book Fair. Together with the Lithuanian Culture Attaché in the United Kingdom, the Lithuanian Culture Institute supports contemporary artists’ mobility and development in the UK.
