On Thursday 14 December at 6 pm, VARTAI SHOWROOM (Vilniaus g. 39, Vilnius) will open a group exhibition of Dutch designers “Monumental Mass”.
On Friday 15 December at 6 pm, the exhibition will be accompanied by a conversation between designers Paul Coenen, Tijs Gilde, Tim Teven. The conversation will be moderated by designer and curator Marija Puipaitė.
“Monumental Mass” stands as a group exhibition delving into the transformative world of material-driven design. It serves as a platform to showcase the distinct works of four designers from Eindhoven, the Netherlands, who collaborate within a shared workshop space.
Their design process is deeply rooted in a hands-on exploration of materials. This tactile approach allows them to uncover unexpected techniques, seamlessly transforming raw materials into functional yet captivating objects. Each object’s appearance naturally evolves from the chosen material and the techniques applied, creating a logical connection between form and fabrication.
Studio Guilty’s work starts with impulsive and intuitive material research, driven by a profound fascination for structures, patterns, and colours. This exploration opens new avenues for production and innovation, shaping their unique artistic expressions.
Tim Teven approaches design with a technical and material-driven perspective, coupled with an experimental, hands-on ethos. His works often integrate the production process as a design tool, allowing the creation and function of objects to organically evolve through experimentation.
Studio Onno Adriaanse, a sculptural design studio, draws inspiration from landscapes and geological processes, channelling these influences into the creation of unique design and art pieces, as well as high-quality interior applications.
Paul Coenen’s exploration of materials and manufacturing techniques is central to his creative pursuit. His design ethos remains straightforward, where the appearance of each object is an inherent result of the selected material and the techniques employed, showcasing a seamless blend of form and fabrication.
