Opening on May 22 at 7:00 PM at the Lithuanian Artists’ Association Kaunas Department Gallery “Drobė”

On May 22 at 7:00 PM, the exhibition “Self-feeling” by Raimonda Petraitė, also known by the artistic pseudonym mone Kielė, will open at the “Drobė” gallery, run by the Lithuanian Artists’ Association Kaunas Department. The main theme of the exhibition is the interplay between the inner and outer worlds of a person and the mutual influence they exert on one another.

The artist explores how appearance can reflect inner emotions and how those emotions, in turn, shape our state of being. Inspired by Erving Goffman’s theories on self-presentation and societal expectations, Petraitė examines how outward appearance can become a mask that conceals the true state of mind.

The exhibition will feature works expressing a range of emotions—from subtle melancholy to vivid joy. The artist does not shy away from depicting negative emotions such as sadness, anger, or anxiety. These are not merely expressive tools but aesthetic experiments that invite viewers to see the connection between emotional states and their visual expression from a new perspective.

“The aim of the exhibition is to reveal the relationship between emotional state and appearance, and to show how we constantly construct our image in society,” says Petraitė. “Through the play of color and brushstroke, I invite viewers to experience these inner and outer worlds and to understand that our appearance can become a mirror not only of ourselves but also of society.”

About the Artist

Raimonda Petraitė (b. 1992), who works under the name mone Kielė, is a contemporary figurative painter. She primarily paints with oil and enamel paints. She holds a bachelor’s degree in painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Faculty, and later studied at Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, where she earned a teaching qualification.

She lives and works both in Vilnius and in a rural area (Ukmergė district), and this duality of urban and rural life is reflected in her work. Petraitė creates contemporary portraits embedded within Lithuanian landscapes, thereby exploring modern emotional states shaped by today’s world. Her work often takes an ironic stance on societal norms and values and critically examines the concept of beauty. She strives to explore the boundary between acceptable and unacceptable aesthetics in the realm of human appearance.

mone Kielė has held six solo exhibitions in Lithuania and the Czech Republic, participates in group exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections in Lithuania and abroad.

The exhibition is part of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association 90th Anniversary Program.
