UT ART Gallery proudly presents Vladislav Lakshe’s solo exhibition titled ‘Real Talk’, opening July 28, 2024 and on view until September 27, 2024 at Alberta Iela 1.
Vladislav Lakshe, a founder of the “Basketball Art” movement, is known worldwide for his contribution to sports through art. His artistic practice, however, goes beyond the subject of sport and addresses the pressing issues of our time. The exhibition ‘Real Talk’ aims to show the other side of the artist’s vision, which is not often shown in the media, by presenting a retrospective of Lakshe’s artworks. These pieces are quite literally an outgrowth of his loud and clear positions on the world’s social issues. Through his distinctive style, Lakshe expresses his thoughts directly and creates a dialogue with each viewer. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of direct forms and complex techniques, reflecting on relevant social issues such as economic injustice, political brainwashing and violence.
Vladislav Lakshe is a distinguished Latvian artist whose works can be found in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as in private collections worldwide.
Vladislav Lakshe has been responsible for the visual and creative side of many world championships, including the Olympic Games, with his expressive aesthetic evident in both traditional and digital media. The artist’s portfolio also includes projects with the Toronto Raptors, the NBA, Nike, Adidas, Puma and Converse and his artwork has been exhibited across Europe, the USA and Asia.
In his home country of Latvia, Lakshe’s projects have significantly contributed to the local cultural scene. As the result, the artist has been awarded, among others, the TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World) award, which is given to young people who excel in their chosen fields and embody the best qualities of the world’s youth.
We invite all contemporary art lovers to visit the exhibition ‘Real Talk’ and experience the unique creativity of Vladislav Lakshe firsthand.
CUT ART Gallery continues to be a vital space for artistic expression that promotes intercultural dialogue and fosters understanding of socially significant issues through art. This exhibition reaffirms the gallery’s commitment to presenting provocative and meaningful art to the public.
