The exhibition ‘Intersections’ by Liucija J. Kryževičienė-Hutcheon is opening on the 4th of March at 6 PM at the VAA gallery ‘Artifex’ (Gaono St. 1, Vilnius).

On March 4th, the Vilnius Academy of Arts gallery “Artifex” will held the opening of the solo exhibition “Intersections” by textile artist Liucija J. Kryževičienė-Hutcheon. This exhibition presents the artist’s latest textile works—geometric abstractions composed of precisely interwoven or freely interlaced silk fabric strips, filling dynamic spatial compositions. These silk bands intersect and overlap like inlaid threads, forming new structural relationships. Standing apart from mainstream Lithuanian textile trends, these strikingly symbolic works merge elements of both painting and textile art. Their silhouettes are inspired by runic scripts, astrological symbols, and traditional Baltic and Lithuanian folk textile patterns. The shimmering copper and aluminum tones of these compositions evoke an optical ambiguity, reminiscent of metalwork and modern technology. Expressive in shape, luminous in surface, and rich in symbolic meaning, these works carry a strong emotional charge.

Graduating in textile arts from the Lithuanian State Art Institute in the mid-1960s, Kryževičienė-Hutcheon has continuously explored new artistic expressions and identities. Her artistic legacy spans diverse periods and mediums, including monumental textile compositions, tapestries, batik works, miniatures, watercolors, and monotypes—each deeply embedded in the history of Lithuanian art. Driven by an enduring curiosity and a desire to embrace global artistic discoveries while maintaining a unique voice, she remains a significant figure in contemporary textile art.
