Gints Rudzītis is ready to present his first solo show at the MABOCA gallery Visuma Centrs 2, in Madona. The opening will take place on November 11th at 6:00 PM and will be complemented by musical performances by Kaspars Putriņš and Tv Maskava.
Immediately after obtaining his master’s degree from Latvian Academy of Arts, Gints decided to explore the landscapes of his homeland outside the capital city Riga, where he spent most of his life. Currently he has been living in a rural house in a forest and marsh area for several years.
Gints has organized his life around oil painting, woodcarving and woodwork. He has set up a workshop in a 120-year-old log cabin located approximately 30 kilometers from Riga in the direction of Iecava.
The artist acknowledges his love for Latvia’s nature and as an observer, he constantly strives to become a part of the landscape. His paintings are created plein air, and sometimes they are completed in the studio without the use of photographs. During the day, Gints spends 2 – 3 hours to paint in nature, which is the approximate time during which the sun does not significantly change its position. Occasionally, some humor finds its way into his paintings, such as when a funny dream is seen at night, it can become a part of his work.
Wood carving is particularly dear to Gints. In the technique of wood carving, various beings are created, encountered in thought and fantasy journeys, or encountered through symbols from various cultures. Esotericism and mythology stimulate the author’s imagination and provide a starting point for a newly created system of symbols.
The exhibition has been created with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund and Erica Synths.
The exhibition is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and on Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
