For the year 2020 gallery LOW’s regular exhibition programme has been replaced by a mini residency cycle titled GUILD. We have invited like-minded art professionals to form an unholy secret society for insider trading as we collectively explore alternative strategies of artistic expression and administration. By the end of this year we are hoping to find a personally satisfactory answer to the question of what is the particular tone of the local Eastern European voice in the cacophony of the global art market and how can an art institution exist without selling out. For the second chapter in this enlightening journey we invited artist Elza Sīle.

Elza Sīle (b. 1989, Latvia) works with possibility lists (menu) consisting of units and their play-outs (sets). Combining analytic division with mental imagery she builds up a vocabulary of psycho-spatial typologies in flow. At the Open Studio there was an opportunity for visitors of the gallery LOW not only to explore Elza Sīle’s most recent work, but to get a tattoo and a new haircut as well.
