Cannibalisms is a duo exhibition and performance showcase by artists Ella Skinner and Ana Lipps. Set within the veiled depths of an underground crypt, the show examines the power dynamics between the eater and the eaten within a contemporary culture that is both sterile and violent.
In the landscape of internet surveillance, we offer up our bodies, intimacy, and desires—passively consumed by invisible forces of power. We lie still, flesh laid bare in a grotesque feast. Our pain, joy, and performances of normalcy are devoured, repurposed into tools for control, profit, and propaganda. Dehumanised and objectified, our skin is flayed and fed into the relentless machinery of surveillance, which dictates where the body can hide. How does one escape the horror of becoming an object? How does the eater purify the eaten to avoid embodying its horror? How can the eaten rise above the eater?
Cannibalisms unapologetically rejects the sterile, gallery-friendly narratives of liberation. It challenges visitors to grapple with how bodies, identities, and agency are consumed, commodified, and erased. The exhibition offers a space for rage, catharsis and collective healing through embracing the grotesque.
