What is a community garden? How could it become a tool for activism, interrelations, engagement and supporting each other? What happens when different people meet and act together? How to build collective ingenuity and motivate communities to engage and participate? How to work with site-specific and city spaces?
On August 18 at 18:00, a forum for the curators of community gardens will take place at SODAS 2123. We kindly invite everyone to actively participate and together seek the answers to the above questions.
The event initiator is Aušra Vismantaitė-Silva. She is an independent researcher, educator and curator of social and economic projects living between Lithuania and Mexico. Recently, Aušra has been researching pre-colonial landscapes, plant migration, different agricultural techniques, horticulture and collective memory. She also is curating the community garden Daržas 2123, which is located in the territory of the cultural complex SODAS 2123.
Daržas 2123 focuses on active engagement with the site and local community through a variety of creative processes: collaborative archives, talks, participatory and community-based activities. During the residency and within the context of the community garden, Aušra is reflecting on food and agriculture as foundational expressions of life—as sociality, history, security, autonomy, community and daily routine.
The event will happen at SODAS 2123, Vitebsko str. 23, at the bookshop Hubris (entering from the main entrance, first floor, on the left side). More information:
