“The Rooster Gallery” supporting the initiative of this year’s 15th competition “Young Painter Prize” and highlighting the achievements of the artists represented by the gallery in the history of the competition, is organizing an exhibition diptych: personal exhibitions of previous “Young Painter Prize” laureates – Andrius Zakarauskas and Eglė Karpavičiūtė.

From the very beginning of its activities, “The Rooster Gallery” exclusively worked with young painters, actively promoting the visibility of young creators both in the national and international art scene. As the group of represented artists expanded, other forms of contemporary art were also introduced, but young painting remained at the core of the gallery’s activities. The gallery is not only linked to the “Young Painter Prize” competition by the fact that many of its represented artists are its finalists and laureates. The impact of the competition was also extended by a special prize awarded by the gallery, the “The Rooster Gallery Open,” offering the winner the opportunity to hold an exhibition in the gallery.

“This year, we are pleased to see the young painter Jonas Motiejus Meškauskas, represented by the gallery, among the finalists of the anniversary ‘Young Painter Prize’. We are also establishing a special prize for the third time, hoping to contribute to the sustainability of the competition results and invite the audience to get to know the young artists better,” says Jurgita Juospaitytė-Bitinienė, the director of “The Rooster Gallery.” “In addition, we are organizing a diptych of exhibitions in two art spaces in Vilnius, alongside the main ‘Young Painter Prize’ exhibition, presenting the latest works of the first competition laureates, Andrius Zakarauskas and Eglė Karpavičiūtė, revealing the current creative pulse of the country’s most prominent painters, included in the collections of national art institutions.”

On November 8th, at 7 p.m., at the “The Rooster Gallery” exhibition space next to Bernardinai Garden (Šv. Brunono Bonifaco st. 12, Vilnius), the exhibition “Memento” by Eglė Karpavičiūtė, the winner of the “Young Painter Prize” audience prize in 2012, will open. In the exhibited works, Karpavičiūtė archives memories. The exhibition focuses on a collection of images that resonate with reflections on current events and the artist’s personal experiences. Transforming reflections on contemporary events, fragments of cultural history, and sharing personal experiences, the painter explores the boundaries of public and private, universality and individuality, observes and captures the passage of cultural time and its changes. The exhibition will be open until November 26th.

On November 9th, at 7:00 PM, at the “TechArts / Rupert” Creative industries center (Vaidilutės st. 79, Vilnius), the exhibition “M Cyclone” by Andrius Zakarauskas, the winner of the first “Young Painter Prize” competition in 2009, will open. In his latest series, the artist continues his exploration of painting as a medium, aiming to decipher the process of image creation, with the primary focus being on the ever-evolving brushstroke. In the exhibited works the emphasis is on the human body. Fragments of bodies on canvas are arranged in rich, painterly intense layers, resembling topographic schemes or climate maps. The dynamic movement of colour masses, spots, and lines in the painting not only becomes a metaphor for the birth of an image but also opens up broader interpretations in the context of current ecological, social, and geopolitical realities. The exhibition will be open until November 19th.

Both exhibitions can be visited on Thursdays to Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
