The exhibition ‘Shadowsigns’ by Ingrid Helena Pajo at Sophie Durand’s studio (at the Užupis Art Incubator, Vilnius) opens on November 16 at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the exhibition will be open from 12 to 5 p.m. The exhibition will be on view for one weekend only.
Welcome and please note: Shadow casts shape. Shape equals sign. Sign communicates meaning. Meaning projects back on shape, back to shadow. The space between meaning and shadow house possibilities. Shadow obscures actualities. Possibilities are meanings. Are personal. Signs are possibilities. Signs are shadows are shapes and shapes cast shadows.
Ingrid Helena Pajo is a textile artist working in Tallinn and Rome. Her practice encompasses collecting, weaving, spinning and dyeing, merged together with the elements of visual arts. In her installation works she is exploring found and traditional textile materials both as a subject matter and a way to tell stories. Overall, she’s interested in direct contact with the raw fibres, delving into the nature of the matter. Borrowing a thought from writer Ursula Le Guin, she is questioning if settling in, making tools and things and being free are mutually exclusive. Ingrid Helena Pajo is a graduate of the Textile Master’s Program at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
