Join us on October 11 at 6 PM for the opening of Kipras Dubauskas’ exhibition Firestarter at Meno parkas Gallery (Rotušės sq. 27, Kaunas). The event will feature a musical performance and a special live act.

The exhibition Firestarter spans two floors of the gallery, with part of the opening extending to Kaunas City Hall Square, where ongoing archaeological excavations are taking place. In the square, guest performers will present a musical show from a dump truck converted into a DJ booth. The exhibition is dedicated to the artist’s late friend and mentor M.D. (1984–2013). It touches on themes of escapism, social exclusion, and remoteness, while also incorporating a playful Fluxus-inspired approach to these subjects.
On the ground floor, a hybrid vehicle is displayed alongside the short film Genius Loci (2023), with the artist himself as the protagonist. The film follows his character, posing as a street repair worker, hiding in a truck trailer owned by the city’s construction fleet. The journey begins at dawn as he sets out to find a Fluxus train station—an imaginary place from his memory with an uncertain destination. This search becomes both a psychogeographical exploration and a repetitive journey, resembling a never-ending tale that always returns to its starting point.
Upstairs, you’ll find Dubauskas’ latest work, the visual collage Firestarter (2024), created between 2021 and 2024 in Lithuania and Italy. The film is a modern retelling of the story of St. Anthony, a recurring figure in art history. This installation reflects on classical narratives through the lens of modernity, focusing on the aesthetics of urban outskirts, decaying infrastructure, and worn-out objects—motifs that are central to Dubauskas’ style. The installation is further enriched by contributions from guest artists, including those who created props for the film, as well as lesser-known creators and photographs by Henrikas Gaičevskis from his time at the Kaunas Seminary in the 1990s.

Visitors can enjoy Fluxus-themed drinks throughout the event, which runs from 5 PM to 10 PM.
