The Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum (ACMPF) is a network connecting contemporary art and culture magazine publishers in the Baltic and Nordic countries: A Shade Colder (Estonia), Artnews.lt and Echo Gone Wrong (Lithuania), EDIT (Finland), Kunstkritikk (Norway), Art in Iceland (Iceland), and WunderKombinats (Latvia). The network aims to continue and establish new and close working relationships between publishers and writers, to better disseminate critical writing and artistic creation in the region, and to share knowledge and experience about working practices, in order to tackle the challenges of cultural publishing, and look for solutions together, highlighting and supporting emerging voices.
This open call is aimed at writers, art critics and cultural journalists who would like to participate in the activities of the Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum during the network’s first research trip to Tallinn and Helsinki in late October or early November 2024. The aim of the research trip is to learn more about publishers and the Baltic-Nordic art field, cultural context and development. The chosen candidate should have a strong ambition to expand their working geography from local to Baltic-Nordic.
General Conditions
Applicants based in the Nordic and/or Baltic countries, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Åland, are eligible to apply.
The chosen writer should be available for the full duration of the network journey (4 to 5 days) to Tallinn and Helsinki in late October or early November 2024.
The network will cover travel and accommodation expenses, meals will be provided during the activities. Additionally, the chosen writer will receive a 500 EUR participation grant.
After the trip, the chosen candidate will be expected to work in close collaboration with members of the network to write at least one article related to their interests and their knowledge gained during the research trip. The article will be published in one or more ACMPF magazines, and the fee will depend on the article and the publisher(s).
Applications can be sent to artnews@artmews.lt before 7 July (midnight, EET time), and should include:
– A short letter of motivation, explaining the applicant’s reasons for applying.
– A selection of published articles (up to 3). Articles can be submitted in any of the network languages, with preferably at least one in English.
– A current CV.
Online interviews with pre-selected candidates will take place in July.
By participating in the open call, all applicants agree that their contact details will be shared with all ACMPF members.
This is the first open call out of three; the second open call will be announced this autumn for a trip to Reykjavík (in the spring of 2025); and the last for a trip to Oslo (in the autumn of 2026). Exact dates TBD each year, according to members’ availability and travel itinerary.
Regretfully we won’t be able to provide feedback to all the applicants, however candidates will be notified if they are not selected.
