“Man and Fish”, a group show of the Lithuanian and French artists, was opened on 17 June in the Kaunas Picture Gallery, a sub-section of the M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum. This has proven to be a significant event both for the visitors and for the artists who, after having been forced to make art in self-isolation, are now celebrating the end of lockdown. After spending the time of the pandemic living, loving and loathing online, we have come to appreciate the value of freedom all over again.

The show “Man and Fish” is brought by the contemporary art gallery “Menų tiltas” (Vilnius) to the M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum as a gift for the occasion of the latter’s centenary anniversary. As a result of the collaborative effort between the Lithuanian curator Julija Dailidėnaitė-Palmeirao and the French art critic Christian Noorbergen, the show features sixteen artists from Lithuania and France: Thierry Dalat, David Daoud, Hélène Duclos, Manu Rich, Julien Allegre, Jean Pierre Ruel, Francisco Sepulveda, Rūta Jusionytė, Vilmantas Marcinkevičius, Vytenis Lingys, Adelė Liepa Kaunaitė, Audronė Petrašiūnaitė, Miglė Kosinskaitė, Indra Marcinkevičienė, Martynas Gaubas and Algimantas Šlapikas. The artists are extremely happy to invite the viewers to experience art in a real-life exhibition space again.

The show calls us to greet the summer season with new hopes and ways of celebrating creativity and life after the time of stagnation. Passion for life and live interaction are at the heart of each and every artwork in the show.

The show will run until 17 October.
