Unthinkable Nomos Conference

nomosThere is already a new nomos in formation, co-evolving around us through the accidental megastructure of planetary-scale computation – a supranational historic moment in process. We do not believe this process is absolutely ineffable, nor lacking in intelligibility. We even say this process is not unthinkable. Yet, as a self-futurizing exercise, recognizing and understanding the unthinkable of nomos, must take itself beyond our contemporary normative conditions, launching from multi-perspectival views: from the liminal spaces of the abstract and the concrete, where identity politics blur with the misrecognized, the misplaced(?) or the proudly ambiguous, to zones free from top-down Corporatocratic domination.

Unthinkable Nomos conference will be held on Saturday, November 5, at the National Gallery of Art, in Vilnius. Its programme offers an in-depth look into the works and life projects of three politically-inspired contemporary thinkers and artists: the designer, film-maker and writer, Daniel van der Velden with Metahaven; independent interdisciplinary artist and feminist activist, Tanja Ostojić; and UK philosopher and co-director of the arts journal ‘Glass Bead,’ Dr. Inigo Wilkins.

Conference is free and open for public, but please have in mind we have limited space for 160-180 participants. If there are guests arriving from far and you want to be sure to get seat, please drop us a line: nomos@unthinkable.site with subject Seat Reservation.

The Conference is first event of the Unthinkable Nomos weekend, followed by Night programme later on at Kvartalas and Workshop on November 6th at Rupert, Vilnius.

Unthinkable is an interdisciplinary research platform constructed by a constellation of artists, curators, editors, thinkers and theorists interested in the problematics of the Baltics, Eastern Europe, Central Europe and the Balkans. By engaging in the critique and expansion of some accelerationist ideas, the aim is to think, unthink, re-narrativize and speculate on the region. Mobilizing perspectives from inside and outside the region in non-institutional contexts, Unthinkable proposes to advance discussions within the discourse through public interventions, events, workshops, reading rooms and on the web platform. http://unthinkable.site/
