A talk ‘Liquid Coloniality’ by curator Rado Ištok at the Vilnius Academy of Arts

Rado Ištok, the curator of the upcoming summer exhibition at Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts (17 July–6 September 2020), will present his recent and current work related to colonial histories as well as water politics. Besides the new e-publication Dwelling on the Threshold, which is a part of the 4Cs project at Nida Art Colony, he will speak about his editorial work, namely collaboration with artist Jacqueline Hoàng Nguyễn on the book Crating the World (2019), building on his work on Decolonising Archives (2016). He will also present the exhibition Liquid Horizons (2019), which he curated last year in Bratislava, as well as his current collaborative research with curator Mariam Elnozahy on the politics of the Aswan High Dam in Egypt and the UNESCO campaign in Nubia.

Rado Ištok is a curator, researcher and editor based in Stockholm. He is a curator of the 4Cs: From Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture programme at Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts (2018-2020), consisting of artist residencies, exhibition, and a three day workshop Dwelling on the Threshold accompanied by an e-publication under the same title (February 2020). He is also a project leader of Spaces of Care, Disobedience and Desire (2018-2020), a research project in collaboration with Marie-Louise Richards and Natália Rebelo, supported by artistic research funding of the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm.
Recent exhibitions include Black Atlas (2019) by Jacqueline Hoàng Nguyễn at the Július Koller Society in Bratislava, Slovakia; Liquid Horizons (2019) at tranzit.sk in Bratislava, Slovakia; Other Visions (2018) within the PAF – Festival of Film Animation in Olomouc, the Czech Republic; and I’m fine, on my way home now (2017) at Allkonstrummet, Stockholm, and Galleri Gerlesborg (2018). As an assistant curator he worked on the exhibition Positions #3 (2016) at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. Editorial work includes Crating the World (Athénée Press, 2019), an artist book of Jacqueline Hoàng Nguyễn; e-publication Decolonising Archives (L’Internationale Online, 2016), and Queer Scandinavia (A2, 2015).
