Ketli Tiitsar and Kristi Paap. Still Life. Cherries and Skeletons. 2015

For centuries the still-life or nature morte has offered artists more freedom than for instance painting a commissioned portrait or landscape. Through carefully considered compositions multi-layered stories were intertwined using objects, animals and nature’s bounty with symbolic value. Ketli Tiitsar and Kristi Paap also wish to get rid of the borders and instructions and create compositions using dead natural materials like wood and cherry stones. Contemplating the material characteristics, essence and cultural meanings of these, they imbue their jewellery with their own experiences and those of previous masters.
