Islandija3_Mariaus_Scerbinsko_foto_4_22019 on February the 14th at 19 o‘clock in KCCC (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda) commences an opening of
contemporary art exhibition called „Square root of the 13th horizon“.

In September 2018, Klaipeda Culture Communication Center, in order to implement the program of international residency of art, sent a group of Klaipeda artists to Iceland. Artists spent a month in the land of ice and volcanoes in a confrontation with themselves, rough nature, time, light and darkness. After travelling around the whole island and dealing with over 4900 kilometres, they explored Iceland’s landscape, in order to holistically reflect the idea of harmonious human, social life and its fullness through conceptual artistic means.

During the residency, group members were seeking to unleash the creative energy in ways of expression most relevant for each and every one of them. Painter Irma Leščinskaitė was creating objects and installations, in which minimalistic composition and existential philosophical direction dominated. Light installation artist Marius Ščerbinskas, has interpreted in a contemporary way the Lithuanian ethnic culture’s object “Sky Garden” in the Icelandic landscape. Mikas Zabulionis, who captured the creative process, created a documentary film from this material. Eglė Ščerbinskaitė used the wilderness for a photo shoot, and artist’s Žaneta Jasaitytė’s installation “A bird came by” has also found its place in the harsh landscapes of the country. In Iceland, in the limiting circumstances, focused on a common process, with the project „Square root of the 13th horizon“ artists present the opportunities of collective creativity.

The authors of the exhibition: Žaneta Jasaitytė-Bessonova, Irma Leščinskaitė, Eglė Ščerbinskaitė, Marius Ščerbinskas, Mikas Zabulionis.

The exhibition will be open until March 10, 2019.
