Regina Šulskytė's exhibition “My Time” at Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC)

1_regina-sulskyte_mano-laikasFriday, the 19th of February, 17:00 at the Exhibition Hall of Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC) (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda) a photography exhibition of Regina Šulskytė “My Time” will be opened; curator Danguolė Ruškienė.

“Time” for Regina Šulskytė, the author of the series of photographs “My Time”, is a relative concept. “My time is the time in which I am here and now, when I can breathe, see, feel, experience, survive, and then – forget everything and remember again… Sometimes my time does not match with the time of the world at all. Partly because of that I combine several photographs while creating another space of memories and time of my experiences. What can we observe in the other space? Perhaps the rooms where I once slept, the yard, where I know every tiny plant, the forest path, where I ran in my childhood, views through the window of the room, or the landscape with a church in a distance – that is the homeland of my father. Strange things happen in that space, though, seemingly, it appears quite plausible. Without knowing that I depict a mother as a girl in the photograph, where I myself am adult, then nothing strange happens” – R. Šulskytė presents her works.

According to the exhibition curator, art critic Danguolė Ruškienė, the time of R. Šulskytė is very roomy. It evidences not only what has happened, but also provides a full-scale of assumptions of what might happen in the future. Birth herein is just as relevant as passing. The influence of social environment for the individual and other factors which determine one or another behaviour of the individual are researched just as carefully as the biological changes in the body or the reflections of the accumulated experience. The specific time of R. Šulskytė sometimes lags behind the events depicted, sometimes catches them up, and sometimes surpasses. Precisely these three transformations of it are monitored and constructed in the consistently evolving photography work of the author. The artist confidently manipulates time, swapping the past with the present or the future, disrupting the development of coherent events (and the story). Thus the adult-she appears next to the mother-girl. And sometimes among artfully juxtaposed scraps of reality “cleaned” inserts intervenes – tingling moments of silence, purifying consciousness from doubts.
