The National Gallery of Art for the first time in Lithuania presents a comprehensive exhibition of the New York based artist Kęstutis Zapkus. Zapkus is one of the best known Lithuanian artists living in the USA with the painting practice deeply rooted in the New York school of painting. In his works the artist combines abstraction with social research; images are based on principles of musical composition and architectural structuring of space. In the early 1990s Zapkus taught at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and with the generation of his students stimulated changes in the Lithuanian art scene.
