Photo reportage from the exhibition 'Inner Pockets' at Editorial

January 2, 2020
Author Echo Gone Wrong

‘Halfdan has inscribed these runes’ – this phrase was written on the inner marble walls of the balcony at Hagia Sophia by a bored (?) Viking on some day back in the 9th century. This stealthily made gesture, brief as an afternoon nap, has etched itself into the building’s skin no less than the portraits of the saints floating up at the vaults. This writing is just like those small things that constantly sink and resurface in our coat pockets, in which, close to our bodies, we keep the particular items we don’t want to lose – cellphones, passports, wallets, even though their importance abrades with time.

Inner Pockets hold the small gestures, scribbles at the margins, and some thought-chasing sketches – the things that yet haven’t (been) decided (upon). Editorial has invited the artists who in the past three years have held or participated in exhibitions here, to turn out their inner pockets, their drawers, to open up their notebooks and let us see their contents.

All of the pieces exhibited at our space are ready to be taken to the different homes of its visitors, as all of the collected funds will be devoted to Editorial’s exhibitions the upcoming year.

We are incredibly grateful to the artists for their support:
