Photo reportage from the exhibition 'Coming Out' by Laisvydė Šalčiūtė at the Ducal Palace Museum Complex of Mantua, LaGalleria Contemporary Art, Italy

Being in the right place at the right time – is it a success, fate or the result of sequential work? How to recognize the right time and the right place? There is no prescription for that, yet some places are not subject to the time limit. Places where art settles down, building a bridge between history and the present. There are people whose efforts make such miracles happen. People with whom it is a pleasure to work again and again to create new dreams.

On April 4, as it was raining cats and dogs, over 100 guests gathered at the Ducal Palace Museum Complex of Mantua for the exhibition opening of Laisvydė Šalčiūtė’s and the Italian sculptor Gehard Demetz’s work. This miracle, named by Laisvydė as “one of the happiest days in my life,” was created by Peter Assmann and Renata Casarini, persons in charge of the museum.

The latest works of our artist are exhibited on the restored antique easels next to the works by Andrea Mantegna, Pisanello and Peter Paul Rubens. Obedient to the vision of curators, they integrate into the environment by creating a dialogue with both, the works by Gehard Demetz and the past filtered through the walls of the museum.

In this letter, we would like to share with you a catalogue of the exhibition Coming Out where you will find a text on the works by our artist Laisvydė Šalčiūtė written by Renata Casarin, one of the exhibition’s curators and art historians.
