“Backstage Party” – the group exhibition dedicated to the tenth anniversary of The Rooster Gallery’s activity. Having started as a non-institutional initiative promoting the painters of the youngest generation, in ten years the gallery has grown together with the artists whom it represented. The exhibition focuses on the history of The Rooster Gallery, its backstage stories, and art by famous Lithuanian artists.

“Backstage Party” erases the boundaries between an exhibition and what remains behind the scenes, unseen for gallerygoers. Besides the artworks (paintings, drawings, objects) the gallery archive will be presented. It consists of publications and other artefacts connected to the gallery, photographic and video material, documenting work process, important events and everyday moments. Created by the team of gallery curators and artists, the exposition-installation aims to define the gallery not as an institution, but as a collective. So the exposition highlights the concepts of travelling, meeting, sharing ideas, collaborating. These describe both the structure of the exhibition and the main principles of gallery work. The exhibited fragments of the gallery’s history not only reflect the decade of the gallery itself, but also comment on Lithuanian art scene, art market and art community.

December 11–31, Gynėjų str. 14, Vilnius.

The Rooster Gallery’s events are kindly supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture, Vilnius City Municipality and INVL Baltic Real Estate
