There are theories that are difficult for our mind to accept – they encourage to construct new models and interpretations of perception of the world. One of them is the theory about the smallest particles and their inconsistent behaviour: the state of particles changes once they are being observed. The most difficult part to comprehend in this behaviour is the fact that it depends on the consciousness of an observer. The consciousness of an observer becomes an inseparable part of the creation of material world environment. This tricky relationship between an observer and a particle, able to potentially transform itself into one or another thing – does it not remind of a chrestomathic situation between a viewer and an artwork? Is the consciousness of the viewer necessary in order to activate an artwork?
Audiovisual installation “Metrodots” by Vaclovas Nevčesauskas draws the viewer into a hide and seek game played between the consciousness and the object. The kinetic installation, moving in hypnotising way, just like those unobserved photons, acts according to its own sonic and visual rhythm, however this rhythm changes as soon as the viewer steps into its field. The visitor can not remain just an unnoticed observer, he alters the artwork just by being in the space. But perhaps it is the artwork that hypnotises the consciousness of the viewer?
Sound – Vytautas V. Jurgutis
Vaclovas Nevčesauskas (born 1980, Vilnius) creates audiovisual projects, scenography, collaborates with sound artists. His artworks, his visual compositions are often abstract, perceived as intuitions or hints, or products of technological research.
Vytautas V. Jurgutis (born 1976 ) is a composer, the author of sound work in this project. He uses a broad spectrum of technology and collaborates with visual artists.
“Metrodots” is not the first collaboration of the above artists. “Metroscan”, their futuristic audiovisual work has been presented in many countries abroad. It consists of algorithmic image design engineering and experimental electronic music. Video projections are based on conversion of live sound data into an image, generated in real time, and has dynamic change of elements, visual enrichment and unpredictability. “Metroscan” has been performed in multiple festivals in Europe and other continents: “Streaming” in the Hague (The Netherlands), “Punto de Encuentro” in Valencia (Spain), “Eclectica” in Tartu (Estonia), Academy of Media Arts Cologne festival “Frischzelle” (Germany), “Streetwaves” in Gdansk (Poland), “KonventZero” (Spain), in festivals in China and India. In 2016 the artwork was performed in Tokyo and Osaka (Japan) and during the closing concert of Madrid Media Festival MADATAC. In 2017 “Metroscan” has performed in the 27th “Experimental Intermedia” festival in New York, and in August – in one of the biggest audiovisual arts festival “Osmosis” in Taipei (Taiwan).
