On Thursday, 15 March at 5 p.m. Kaisa Maasik’s personal exhibition “Your Love Hurts” will be opened in the monumental gallery of the Tartu Art House.

“Your Love Hurts” uses stories from Estonian people to talk about domestic and intimate partner violence. The gallery will become a shared installative space where the audience can reflect upon their own experiences.

The artist adds: “It is difficult to admit that somebody whom you love and who loves you in turn has hurt you in the past or is doing it currently. Even if they don’t mean to. At the present exhibition anonymous family members talk about their experiences and viewers can record their own stories. Many of these come from the childhood: children don’t know what is right but they feel when something is wrong. They intervene and admit what’s going on.”

Kaisa Maasik (b 1994) has a bachelor’s degree from the Photography Department of the Estonian Academy of Arts and is currently continuing her master studies at the same department. Her first personal exhibition took place in 2015 and she has participated in group exhibitions in Estonia, Finland and Germany. In 2017, Maasik had her first curatorial projects: Umbrella Group’s “Not Really” in the ARS project space and Keiu Maasik’s personal exhibition “Lost Friends” at the Estonian Academy of Arts Gallery.
