EXPERIMENTAL EXHIBITION
OU (english: UA)

Opening of the exhibition: May 3rd, 2018 at 6 pm at Vilnius Graphic Art Centre (Latako str. 3).
The exibition will be open until May 26th.

Two opposite claims are posited in parallel: the hUmAn is either an insignificant and petty being, governed by molecular and economic laws, or the majestic and mighty master of the universe, conqueror of the cosmos. The aim of both is to inspire humans to accomplish “great” deeds and thereby make them an instrument of politics.
In the drawing exhibition UA I attempt to juxtapose these claims. I am showing drawings which focus on the human as their main motif, while every ten minutes Eduardas Mieželaitis’ 1961 heroic poem Human, recited without consonants, is heard. The style of the drawings is influenced by the Soviet realist tradition, yet the human is portrayed here as an ordinary dweller of this world who sometimes happens to be majestic and sometimes not. The poetry of Eduardas Mieželaitis, laureate of the Soviet Union’s most prestigious Lenin award, is presented with erased consonants, thus preserving its melodics but eliminating the content.
