On Thursday, February 12 at 6.30 pm CAC Reading Room hosts a meeting with two unique art publishers and distributors, “Lugemik” of Tallinn and “X Marks the Bökship” of London.Artist Anu Vahtra and graphic designer Indrek Sirkel established the independent publishing initiative “Lugemik” in 2010. “Lugemik” publishes artists’ books, catalogues, monographs and other art related printed matter. They work in close collaboration with artists, writers, designers and printers and try to broaden a network of small and independent art publishers. In 2013 “Lugemik” opened a bookshop in Tallinn on the premises of the Contemporary Art Museum Estonia that stocks a range of international and local titles in contemporary art, design, theory and related subjects. Currently it is the only bookstore of a kind in the three Baltic countries.“X Marks the Bökship” – an independent bookshop and project space for independent publishers in London – was set up by artist Eleanor Vonne Brown in 2008. “X Marks the Bökship” also specialises in small press publications by artists, poets and designers. The artist who is currently a resident at “Rupert” will present a performative reading.

A selection of publications presented by “Lugemik” and “X Marks the Bökship” will be on view at the CAC Reading Room until February 20.

Prior to the event please join a guided tour at the exhibition of Estonian contemporary art MEEL. VAHTRA. FARKAS_idealist function with one of the participating artists and a co-founder of “Lugemik” Anu Vahtra and CAC curator Julija Fomina.

The exhibition MEEL. VAHTRA. FARKAS_idealist function features previously created and newly commissioned works by three Estonian artists of different generations whose work shares a common ground of spatial poetry. The exhibition is based on dialogue inspired by the first concrete poetry manuscript The Club (1968–1969) by Raul Meel. The method of Dénes Farkas is deconstruction of text: in case of his installation Evident in Advance that was first shown at the Estonian Pavilion at the 55th Biennale di Venezia it is The World as I Found It, a fictional biography of Ludwig Wittgenstein written by Bruce Duffy. Anu Vahtra creates special poetry using optical effects rather than language.

The exhibition MEEL. VAHTRA. FARKAS_idealist function is on view until March 18.
