From 1st till 30 of November at the platform for contemporary art P/////AKT will host exhibition by Miks Mitrevics and Kristine Kursiša (Riga, Latvia). They have been working together for several years. Their mutual practice is based on compiling everyday observations, photos, notes and remarks made in many places and in different times, under various circumstances. For most of the time they reflect certain personal investigations, the accumulation of which has become the main creative act of not only their personal space, but also the whole of creative space.

April showers is a series of works based on the artists’ private archives; the record of their en route experiences, gathered while pursuing various personal interests. It is also an automatically generated CAPTCHA text that occurred while making a standard booking for a flight on April 4th 2013.
The title thus refers to past journeys made in order to trace historical persons, books, films, documentary materials and other sources. More specifically it refers to the widely used search engine Google, which offers an organized structure and random chaos simultaneously, and has thereby set a new, generally accepted standard consisting of a mixture of different sources, cultures, styles, relevant and insignificant information and images. In a nutshell, April showers is about the actual source of the work, both giving insight in the private lives of the artists and functioning as a signifier for a more universal message.

April showers is the second exhibition within the series All we can do is what we are actually doing already, which focuses on the core of the artistic process; the instance that triggers the act of making. Also featuring: Scott Joseph (Under the Sign, September 13 – October 12) and Chaim van Luit (December 13 – January 18). The series is reflected upon by Frank Koolen (moderator) and Marianna La Rosa Maruyama (writer).

P/////AKT is based at Zeeburgerpad 53 in Amsterdam Oost.
