The artist is presenting two new works created during his recent 5-week residency at Civitella Ranieri Foundation. The exhibition takes its title from a series of drawings that span the entire Latin alphabet. In tune with Mäetamm’s idiosyncratic humour, each drawing illustrates a single letter through a comic take on marital problems. The second work continues to explore the theme of family life, yet this time – influenced by his experience at the residency – Mäetamm does so through exploring a new-to-him medium of ceramics.

The opening will be accompanied by a book launch of the artist’s publication “FAMILY STORIES AND MANY OTHER STORIES …and some works from 2006 to 2013”. It is conceived as a sequel to Mäetamm’s eponymous book (published in 2006) which documented the artist’s works from student days until 2006. The new publication will cover the period from 2006 until the present day, entirely narrated by Mäetamm himself.

Mäetamm is an Estonian artist. Since graduating from Estonian Academy of the Arts’ with an MA in Fine Arts in 1995, he has been exhibiting widely both locally and abroad, including representing Estonia at the Venice Biennial (2003 with Kaido Ole and in 2007). His recent solo shows include “Painting and Waiting” at Hobusepea and Draakoni galleries, Tallinn (2013); “Once Upon A Time”, Galerija Centar, Podgorica, Montenegro (2012); and “Walking in My Hunting Ground”, Nettie Horn, London, UK.
